Gratitude journal

So when I was at one of my lowest points, my best friend came up with a great idea. She set up a whatpps group for the two of us and every night before bed, we are to write a few bullet points about things we were grateful for that day. Today is Day 192. We definitely skipped a few days (and haven’t written 192 entries each!) but we both always try very hard to return to this after every little/ longer break.

I just read her entry for Day 192 and it is so lovely. In fact most of her entries are lovely and makes me smile. Thank you honey.

I have been working on my mental health recently and I would say the last couple of weeks have been more positive because of it. Sadly a phone call today threw me off. A podcast I listened to recently suggested that when one think a negative thought, think of 3 positive thoughts to counter it. So here I am. Going to write my gratitude journal entry even more seriously than I usually do:

  • I enjoyed waking Arthur up today. He was smiley even when his eyes were still closed and we had some nice cuddles before breakfast
  • We got to celebrate granddad’s birthday together today. Nothing special happened today as we had already cut a cake and went for a meal this weekend but it was good to enjoy time together
  • We walked into town in sunshine. The silly boy actually fell asleep without a dummy even though it was a less than 3 hour wake window!
  • I had to wake the silly boy when we got to the library for rhymetime and we were 15 mins late to a 30 mins session lol but I think he didn’t mind being woken up too much as there were loads to see. He was a bit unsure about the singing and all the people at first but I think you enjoyed it in the end
  • We did a small food shop and not had to worry about prices
  • Arthur didn’t eat lunch and dinner very well (less grateful about that!) and even got very upset towards the end of dinner (we guessed it was because he wanted more orange) but he was still a happy boy overall today so I am grateful for that
  • Enjoyed zongzi made by grandma for lunch!
  • More cuddles with Arthur after lunch
  • Managed to do laundry while Arthur was being watched
  • Arthur laughed out loads when Daddy turned him upside down and threw him onto the bed a few times
  • Arthur giggled loads as I pushed some wheels on the floor so they spun
  • Nice veg cooked by granddad for dinner and we finished off the beef I made the other night
  • A lovely few minutes sitting and chatting with everyone after dinner while watching Arthur played
  • Relatively easy bedtime. Well, I guess daddy did first part so mummy got it easier. Arthur was quite calm and I managed to make him giggle before bed by doing something new – while cuddling him in the usual milk feed position, I held his left arm and put his palm facing my palm. I then moved his palm gently down my forearm. We did this stroking motion a few times before we swapped and I tried to stroke his foreman instead. That made him giggle. Must be because it was tickly.
  • I was able to take today off as holiday. Even having holidays as part of my job should be something to appreciate.
  • Writing this list in this level of details is actually making me smile.
