Day 3 – Bangkok to Chiang Mai

Compared to the jampacked Day 2, it was a quieter, slower day. No surprises really as we were flying from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

After a lie in (much needed after the alcohol and dancing last night) and check out, we headed back to the same local restaurant for brunch because we thought the food was so good the day before. Somehow we ended up ordering 4 plates of food including one that I actually found awful! It’s the noodle in a red sauce in the photo below, I am sure it is a dish much loved by some but the sourness just got to me. The other noodle dish, rice dish and fish cakes were really good though.

Taxi journey

The taxi journey to the airport was not very particularly exciting but we did learn that passengers pay the express way toll (just as it says at the bottom right of the fare chart) so it was a good thing that we had cash in hand! Once paid we get handed a paper ticket with holes punched to say you have paid for a certain date. The photo below shows we paid 50 Baht that time for a 4 wheels vehicle.

9 Suite Luxury Boutique Hotel, Chiang Mai

Just after 5pm, we exited our first Lion Air flight in Chiang Mai. The hotel we booked for our stay came with an airport pickup/ drop off service which was very handy. We found our driver quickly and it was not long till we arrived at the 9 Suite Luxury Boutique Hotel. First impression was great. There are a couple tables outside by a water features and inside there were plenty of cute decorations in the lobby/ front desk area. We were greeted with a nice cool drink and a snack displayed in a dainty little tray. It was also very smart of time to include the hotel Wifi information as well (save us from asking!). Then we were shown to our room. It was quite a cute one. Pretty modern and nice deco, good size and layout. We particularly liked the spacious bathroom with big octagon mirror. The petal shaped shower head was unlike what we have seen before.

After settling in, we headed out to quickly grab a snack in a near by 7-11 just to refuel while we researched our dinner option properly. We also spoke to the front desk and ordered breakfast for tomorrow. Our hotel package didn’t include breakfast but we decided to go for it since we have to get up nice and early tomorrow for our exciting day with elephants!

Its Good Kitchen

By the time it’s dinner o’clock we were starving and we picked Its Good Kitchen for our first proper meal in Chiang Mai. It was a popular place, packed full of people. We were glad to get a table. We ordered 5 dishes + rice (came in a teddy bear shape) + drinks. Yes, like I said we were hungry! The food was all really good.
